Chibwika Chiefdom lies in Mwinilunga District, at Zambia's north-western edge, where forests, rivers and plains meet across a borderland of three nations and one ancient kingdom.
The chiefdom sits in the heart of Mwinilunga, the most north-westerly district of Zambia. Our lands extend across rolling miombo woodland, broadleaf forest and open grass plain, watered by thirteen perennial rivers and countless seasonal streams.
To the north and west, the chiefdom shares boundaries with sister chiefdoms in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of Angola — all of us heirs to the same Lunda kingdom that has shaped the cultural map of central Africa for centuries.
This convergence makes Chibwika more than a single place. It is a node in a wider regional fabric of language, custom and trade.
Chibwika is blessed with deep, well-drained soils, a long rainy season, and a forest cover that buffers our streams and shelters a rich biodiversity. Cassava, maize, beans, groundnut and sweet potato all grow well here.
Eight agriculture camps anchor the rural economy. Each is home to many farming households, their lead farmers, cooperatives and womens' savings groups. Together they form the backbone of the chiefdom's productive life.
The forests yield timber, honey, mushrooms, caterpillars and medicinal plants. The rivers carry water and fish. The plains support cattle and small ruminants. The land has given much; it deserves stewardship in return.
The chiefdom's affairs are stewarded by two distinct but complementary institutions, working together for the well-being of the people.
Under the patronage and custodianship of HRH Chief Chibwika, the Royal Establishment holds the traditional authority of the chiefdom — guardian of customary law, cultural heritage, and the relationship between the people, the land and the ancestors. The Chief is the ultimate steward of all that we do.
The Chibwika Chiefdom Development Trust is the registered fiduciary body through which development initiatives are designed, funded and implemented. It operates under a deed of trust, with a board of trustees, in service of the strategic priorities the chiefdom has identified.
We hold this land in trust, not in possession. It came to us from those who walked before, and it will pass on to those who come after. Our task is to leave it better than we found it.
The Chibwika WayThe Chibwika Chiefdom Strategic Plan 2023–2027 sets out the priorities, projects and partnerships through which we are working to realise the vision of a thriving, self-reliant, environmentally rich community. It is the reference document against which every initiative we undertake is measured.
